Top Turf Tips

After two weeks of installation, you should be good to go ahead and cut your new turf.

However, it’s important to make sure the turf has had enough time to establish and the roots are firmly attached to the soil to avoid any damage.

When you’re ready to mow, be sure to use a sharp blade and cut only the top 1/3 of the grass blades. This will encourage healthy growth and keep your turf looking beautiful and even. Just be sure to wait until the turf is dry before mowing and avoid walking on the newly cut grass until it has had time to recover.

By following these guidelines, you’ll be well on your way to a beautiful, healthy lawn.

Weeds can be a real nuisance when it comes to having a beautiful lawn, and it’s important to get rid of them before laying your new turf. Weeds can compete with your grass for nutrients, water, and sunlight, making it difficult for your lawn to grow and thrive.

  • Hand weeding is a good option for smaller areas. Use a garden tool or your hands to remove the weeds manually. It’s effective, but can be time-consuming.
  • Chemical weed control is another option, where you use herbicides to kill the weeds. Make sure to choose a product that’s safe to use on the type of turf you’re laying.
  • Solarisation involves covering the soil with clear plastic sheeting, trapping heat from the sun to kill the weeds. It’s best done during the summer months, and takes a few weeks to be effective.
  • Soil sterilisation is a more aggressive option, involving a chemical sterilant to kill all vegetation, including weeds. It’s best for larger areas with severe weed infestation.

It’s completely normal to see visible seams or lines in your new turf for a few weeks after it’s been laid. Don’t worry, they should disappear on their own in due course.

Typically, it takes around 2 to 4 weeks for these lines to disappear. The timeframe can vary depending on factors like the weather, the quality of soil preparation, and how well you take care of your new lawn.

To speed up the process, be sure to give your new turf the proper care it needs. Water it regularly, but be careful not to over-water it, and avoid walking on it until it’s fully established.

By following these tips, your turf lines should vanish in no time, and you’ll be left with a beautiful, seamless lawn to enjoy.

When it comes to watering new turf, it’s important to take care to ensure that the soil remains moist but not too wet.

For the first couple of weeks after installation, you should aim to water your new turf twice a day.

As the turf begins to establish, you can gradually reduce the frequency of watering to once a day or every other day, depending on your specific climate and soil conditions. Be sure to avoid overwatering your new turf, as this can cause damage to the roots and lead to other problems.

Walking on new turf can be detrimental to its health and appearance. The weight of your footsteps can compress the soil, causing the turf to root poorly and potentially leading to visible seams or gaps. Additionally, walking on new turf can damage the delicate blades of grass and create uneven patches in your lawn.

It’s best to avoid walking on your new turf until it has fully established itself, which typically takes about two to four weeks. During this time, it’s important to water it regularly and avoid any heavy foot traffic. Once your new lawn is fully established, you can resume normal use and enjoy your beautiful, healthy turf!
